Det gjelder hovedsaklig matnat-institutter.<br /> <br /> IT-avdelingen tilbyr epost-tjenere for en rekke andre institutter og avdelinger, tilbudet er implementert på to servere noralf.uib.no og alf.uib.no. Disse to utfyller og overlapper hverandres oppgaver. Skulle den ene gå ned vil den andre overta. Selv om mye av postgangen er avhengig av at begge serverne er operative, vil ingen krise oppstå om den ene av serverne er ute av funksjon en periode. alfs hovedoppgave er å håndtere den enkeltes innboks mens spesialiserte løsninger som lister og fax-gatewayen håndteres av noralf. I tillegg kommer studentserveren og utplasserte «syv søstre-maskiner» på noen fakulteter.<br /> <br /> Pr november -98 var det 11500 personer registrert under IT-avdelingens postkontor, ca 25000 mailadresser. ca 10000 personer hadde datakonto på serverne til IT-avdelingen.
